Exquisite Truth
'The Exquisite Truth' is a series of self portraits diptychs and triptychs, which I explore the idea of body positivity. I began studying women who wrote of their experiences being an over weight woman in a society that thrives on size obsession. Upon reading I realized how much respect I gained for these women. Women, who did not let a disapproving eyes dictate what they wore and how they viewed, loved or respected themselves. In my own experience I have felt that I constantly had to defend myself.
Throughout my life I have heard things such as “You need surgery” or “you'd be so hot if you were skinny.” I've decided that I am not going to be ashamed anymore. The Exquisite Truth presents an imperfect body that is sensual and sexual, two powerful natural human attributes largely dissociated with certain body types. This series is a reclamation of self.
